“Cherry leaf scorch and cherry leaf spot are the same disease under two names”

These are two separate fungal diseases with different causal organisms: leaf scorch is caused by Apiognomonia erythrostoma and leaf spot by Blumeriella jaapii. Penn State Extension's dedicated leaf spot page treats leaf spot on its own and makes no mention of leaf scorch at all, which matches how distinct the two are treated in the wider literature even though a gardener seeing brown, damaged cherry leaves might assume it's a single problem.

What to do: Check what the dead leaves do next to tell them apart: leaf scorch's foliage stays hanging on the tree through winter, while leaf spot's foliage turns yellow and drops early, before or around harvest.
