The storage method, step by step

RHS's "at least a couple of months" is the only concrete duration either source gives, so treat that as the safe planning figure rather than a hard ceiling. Garden Organic's colder 0-4°C target is the tighter of the two temperature ranges; getting your shed closer to it than to a bare "just above freezing" is the practical way to beat that couple-of-months minimum, even without a source putting a number on how much further it stretches. One rotting root caught early costs you one root; left in the box, it can cost you several.
